Is it wrong to ask someone who has no feedback to ship the bow first, and then I can pay them once I receive the bow? I don't want to cause an issue, but I would be helping them get some feedback as well as feeling a little safer myself.

I wouldn't ship the bow first, I've sold 2 bows here, and got 0 feedback, good, bad or other wise. So no feedback doesn't mean he hasn't sold anything, ask him if and who, and if he has sold stuff, ask the person he says he sold it to.
I doubt anyone would ship the bow before you paid for it. If you don't feel safe paying for a bow on here, don't buy the bow.
Paypal is a safe transaction to buy off here because you can get your money back if the bow doesn't show up.
good luck

consider several options:
use an online Escrow service. google can assist in these matters. expect to split fees
Ebay private auction: set up a transaction for you with a fixed amount. expect to split fees
Its your call I hope one of these ideas helps. Everyone else has very good suggestions too.
A tele # and a friendly phone coversation could ease your fears.
I've done this on numerous occasions and twice ( out of over a hundred) was did they not want to talk on the phone...and the deal was dead at that point.
"My profile tells me I have 14,000 posts (been here a long time), but in actuality I bet I've filled out 30,000 replies. I just didn't hit the "submit reply" button at the end of 15,000+ of them."-Bobmuley
shipping the bow first just sounds crazy to me. i would never agree to that at all. but thats just me
Get a phone Number, give him a call and discuss
the transaction. Make sure you get a good address, (not a
P.O Box), for that person, and tracking numbers for your goods.
Zero feedback is not bad, it just means that nobody has left
him some feedback. He has to start somewhere, we all did.
It can be scary to mail out hundreds of dollars and hope you
get something back. I only use Paypal or Money orders on
my transactions to be safe and have never had a problem

When in doubt, show up early. Think less. Feel more. Ask once. Give thanks often. Expect the best. Appreciate everything. Never give up. Make it fun. Lead. Invent. Regroup. Wink. Chill. Smile. And live as if your success was inevitable, and so it shall be.
Good Luck hunting to all..
