Been around this archery game for many moons.

Started out hunting with a re-curve.Killed my first deer with a re-curve take down bow, with a tab finger release . Had no stands .Climbed a tree with spurs.

Later i competed with a re-curve bow in some top meets, using a finger tab release.
Then along came the hook string release. Oh, said the finger tab shooter, this isn't archery. In-fact it got so heated. Archery took a down fall, for some time after the release was allowed as a piece of archery equipment.

Then along came a Jennings compound bow in my area. Now the hunters using a stick bows, began saying this isn't hunting. Then it fed over to the target archer. This isn't archery.

Now i guess the squealing and complaining still continues, with a new age and time. But people being humans. Hasn't changed a bit, . Can't except or make room for some one else's type of hunting or there piece of equipment.

Now it has come down to the compound shooter chewing on the cross bow shooter. And again stating this isn't archery.

Just how would you compound shooters feel .If i put my old hat on. From my re-curve days, years past. And didn't want to share my sport with you.

And made the broad statement here. That Compounds wasn't archery either. Or hunting for fair chase. By using cams --cables---releases, Climbing stands and so on.

Life is about moving over and making room for others. We don't own nothing here on this earth. So why do you convince yourself, that if it doesn't fit your agenda . Its not archery. You are here to play with archery for a short time any way.And nobody owes you nothing.

Wish i could live long enough, to see the next seed of man. And what he thinks, and feels archery EQUIPMENT consist of. And how he comes down on the compound and cross bow shooters. With his selfish greed.

Gotta be the most intelligent post I've ever read on AT.

I own no deer or land and my soul is good. If you have never hunted around these people then you dont know what im talkin about. PS Its not the weapon its the operator that is my concern most true archers are a pleasure to be around and hunt around no matter what they choose to shoot.
I'm all about its brown its down, I don't hunt horns. I've been shooting bows since I was 6 both recurve and compound over the years. I've practiced and shot with cross bows and personally do not think it should be allowed in the same hunting season as my compound unless the archer has a medical issue not allowing them to pull back a real bow.

My dad made the leap to cross bow last year due to lower back problems and hates it. Its the only way for him to get out in the field so he just swallows his pride and does it. Hes also one of the few around here that does not only pick up his bow a few weeks before season and drops it as soon a gun season starts.

Once again, if you have a medical issue that will not allow you to pull back a real bow then by all means please pick up a cross bow and get out and enjoy your archery season. If you are able bodied then learn to shoot a real bow and put leave the stick guns to people that have to use them.

not debating hereon the crossbow

but that was a rather Uneducated statement. You visit here much???????? these guys LIVE for shooting their bows and most for hunting with them too. i don't think most of our equipment collects much dust or dirt unless it is from one of our many days afield!!!!! that statement shows the validity of your judgement of Xbows!

A crossbow started my bowhunting and will lengthen the time I can enjoy this great lifestyle when I'm older. My youngest son got hooked on the sport with a crossbow in his hands and now practices religously with his compond. For me there is no question that crossbows are a part of bowhunting. If it's legal, and it should be, and it gets more people involved in our sport then I am all for it!
