Bowhunting has changed my perception on hunting ethics

this is my fourth year shooting a bow. my second year bow hunting. so far i killed a deer last year and an antelope this year with my bow. i'm 2 for 2 bow hunting which i hear is pretty darn good for a western hunter. deep down i'm still a rifle/muzzleloader hunter. this year i chose to hunt muleys with my dad using a muzzleloader. i had an experience i will never forget, which i believe has changed my hunting ethics. first light opening morning i spotted a herd of mule deer. had a pretty nice buck in the bunch. there was 8 does 2 forks and this older mature buck. i ranged them and they turned out to be 300 yard away. any given year i would have taken that shot with my muzzleloader and may or may have not hit him. this year my bow hunting instincts came out. i decided to put a stalk on them. i found myself 50 yards from the buck (which i consider an ethical bow shot). i steadied my cross-hairs right on his shoulder and made a perfect heart shot. he dropped in his tracks. i believe working hard during a bow hunt will change you perceptions during a rifle or muzzleloader hunt. just thought i'd share this experience.

Good Job. Post a pic.
The first option is to always try to get as close as possible with any weapon, but I am prepared to take the long shot just in case.

You are setting a very good example of hunting ethics for future hunters. Job well done!

An example

You are a great example of the heart/art of bow hunting. If you ever get to Missouri, I would be glad to show you some great bow hunting areas.

Cheers!

thanks for the complements, i appreciate them. and sorry tinpanharry, for now i'm a western hunter. until i graduate college and can afford to pay for hunting trips i can only afford to stay hunting in state. but one day you can bet i will try out whitetail hunting.
