As the season is beginning in many places and the topic of arrow weights, broadhead selection, etc. rage on I would like to conduct a volunteer study of everyone’s kills. I think a large forum like this we can collect a lot of data points in one season. So if your willing, after you kill a deer/s this year please post the following in this thread:
1) bow specs - make/model, draw length, draw weight
2) arrow weight and length, insert, broadhead and broadhead weight
3) trophy photo
4) description of shot (quarter to/away, hit heavy bone, pass thru, distance)
5) if bone contacted, photo/s of damage to bone
6) deer is a fawn, adolescent (1-3 yrs), mature
(I don’t want to get into specifics of exactly how old just trying to get some classification)
At the end of the season I will compile the data into a spreadsheet and see if any trends arise. I will post all the data as well. I want this to be as unbiased as possible and see what kind of real world results we get. If this goes well we may continue it on over a few seasons to get more data points. This is not to point out anything specific in any direction just data collection. Thank you and good luck!

Bowtech SR6 - 62 pounds, 29" draw
300 spine, 27" c to c, 100 grain insert, 100 grain head (about 500 grains)
Quartered away, 38 yards, pass through but arrow didn't go all the way through, only ribs on far side

But seriously, I'm interested in the results. Season opens Saturday for me and I have 4 different broadheads in my quiver to try out this fall.

440 grain TAW Easton Axis 340
Around 12% FOC
125 grain Slick Trick Vipertricks
Aprox 15 yard shot from 20 feet up a tree.

These are older but I'm going to make it a point to get some better necropsy photos this year. Looking forward to this thread & thanks for your work you're going to be putting in. I can see it being very helpful. I hope people put the bads in as well. Those could be the most useful imo. I know I will. I have no shame & it's a by product of hunting. I know we often shy away from talking about the bad, but it's the only true way to learn.

1) bow specs - make/model, draw length, draw weight
Elite Answer, 28", 80lbs
2) arrow weight and length, insert, broadhead and broadhead weight
832 grains 26% foc. Sirius apollo 200spine , 28" carbon to carbon with ethics ss 220gr insert
& sleeve with 250 grain cuttthroat. 4- 2inch sheild cut trueflight feathers & feradyne nockturnals.

3) trophy photo
See below
4) description of shot (quarter to/away, hit heavy bone, pass thru, distance)
A slight quarter away, entered in the V on the right side (no bone) & exited through the scapula just above the ball joint on left, complete passthrough, buried in the dirt, 38 yards.
5) if bone contacted, photo/s of damage to bone
Working on that!
6) deer is a fawn, adolescent (1-3 yrs), mature
He was an old swamp deer. Barely any teeth left. Felt like sandpaper.

Suggested to add....
7) tracking distance

Less then a 3 yards. He tried to take one step, buckled & fell with a broken shoulder & died within a few seconds. Huge bubbles everywhere. Most of the 3 yards were him sliding on his chin.

Hey I hope you don't mind other animals beside whitetail...??? Being that @Mossy-Back, @Nockbuster98 & @rapids posted their awesome kills I figured I'd add some more to the mix. Not sure if you're only looking for whitetails or if any kind of kill works? I personally would love to see any kind of archery results, but don't want to over run your process. Let us know.

I'll carry on for now unless you state otherwise.....

1) bow specs - make/model, draw length, draw weight
Elite Answer, 28", 80lbs
2) arrow weight and length, insert, broadhead and broadhead weight
832 grains 26% foc. Sirius apollo 200spine , 28" carbon to carbon with ethics ss 220gr insert
& sleeve with 250 grain cuttthroat. 4- 2inch sheild cut trueflight feathers & feradyne nockturnals.

3) trophy photo
See below
4) description of shot (quarter to/away, hit heavy bone, pass thru, distance)
A quarter away, entered right behind the crease on the right side (no bone) & exited through the center of scapula on right. Arrow passed all the way through but he immediately buckled & rolled breaking the arrow hanging out. 32 yards
5) if bone contacted, photo/s of damage to bone
Working on that! You can see the exit bruising in the pic. Right through the scapula. If you zoom in you can also see the starburst effect of the bone created by the single bevel. It hooked heavily right through the scapula on exit. Made a huge backward J with a big starburst cut in a big sideways V to the right. The J was the single bevel & the V was a byproduct. Pretty cool to see! And that was the exit!
6) deer is a fawn, adolescent (1-3 yrs), mature
Not a deer (sorry! maybe, hope it's okay to add).
Past mature boar. His oysters (you can have, not my thing) were shriveled up. Definitely past his prime but built like a sherman tank. When I knocked on his shield it had a sound & felt harder than wood. It literally left marks on my knuckles & felt harder then a 4x4.

Suggested to add....
7) tracking distance

Less than 3 yards. He got pinned to the ground immediately & slide on his side. Kicked two or three times & he gone. Probably less than 5 seconds.

May 2022 spring turkey from west Michigan
2019 Elite Ritual 35; 61@29.25" DL
Easton Hexx 28.75" shaft w/50gr insert, Blazer vanes, NAP Spitfire mech BH=425gr TAW
Longbeard was ranged at 32 yards with a hen....was not coming any closer to my decoy or calling, so I shot him broadside from that distance (popup blind). Put him right down with a bit of flopping, but not a full pass through....likely due to the additonal 10 yards of the shot distance....plus he was a pretty big bird

1. Hoyt Carbon Defiant, 28.5" DL, 69 pounds
2. 470 gr arrow, 125 gr Slick Trick standard
4. 33 yards, broadside, heart shot, thru ribs on both sides
6. average doe, didn't get weight
Thank you for the info. One thing I do want to push going forward is pictures are required. Only reason is so that we don’t get anyone trying to manipulate the data by posting false reports.

Using the same gear as the longbeard from my former post.......actually I was fall turkey hunting....when a small group of does wandered through instead of a bird. Shot one at 33-34 yards and have a freezer filler.

That's a lot of info............lol......I'll add some of it.

V3x (was at #65 for these two pics but I lowered it to maybe 58? Not really even sure but I'm playing around like normal.........lol)
425 grain arrow then......now I'm shooting a 400 grain arrow for the remainder of the season
Was shotting 275 but I haven't chrono'd the new setup yet
Standard GT Velocity XT with a 125 grain Wac' em for the pics (now I'm using a 100 grain Montec)
Both were super far shots....one was 11 yards and the other about 9.

Both pass-through's but no bone was encountered to speak of.

So far it's been a great year.....and I was having horrible vision issues last year that I have seemed to have resolved.....thank the Lord. l'm slowing down until I get to go out of state soon and waiting for the rut.
