I was going to do a review on Bohnings new "Bolt" vane (3.5" shield cut) since I had not seen them mentioned here yet, but I've found that these vanes are difficult to fletch. They are a very stout vane, which should be great for crossbows. But I've found that means they take much more glue and set time to bond them to a shaft. The glue has to be completely set or the vane will lift off the shaft. The problem then arises in that the vane also bonds to the jig, and the shaft then rotates when trying to break it free, therefore affecting vane orientation. I've had to refletch several to the point now where I am fed up. I'll shoot the good ones I have complete for accuracy testing, but I doubt I'll build anymore.

Also, I forgot to mention these are installed with a RH offset. I assume a straight fletching will install easier, but possibly sacrifice accuracy.

So far, I can't recommend these things.

It's been my experience that less glue is better than more,,, Jerry's glue is instant, (15 to 20 seconds), shoot em right off the jig,,,unless you use too much.

I use Jerry's glue exclusively. I use much less glue when I use the Bohning X vanes or Blazers. These vanes just require more glue. When everything goes right, these vanes look okay installed. The problem is, these vanes are hard to get right. I even asked JErry about them before I bought them and he was not impressed.

I remember years ago that Bohning was famous for putting a release agent on their molds to make it easier for the vanes to fall out during the manufacturing process. Those bases had to be cleaned in order for any glue to work.

I follow Dorge's tip about dipping a Q-tip into acetone, swipe the base once, spin the Q-tip around and wipe with the clean tip, and then start fletching. I also use a watery thin superglue that bonds in seconds.
