Hitting deer in the scapula

This morning I shot a doe high and it hit her in the scapula I'm pretty sure. It was dead on right behind the crease of the shoulder where she was standing broadside but obviously way high. I was using the Rage 2-blade and we tracked her for about 500 yards before losing the trail. There was a 50 yard stretch where she bled quite a bit but then starting just leaving drops the next 150 yards. The arrow broke off like only 3" from the insert. I'm not sure if it only went in 3 inches or that's where she broke it off at. Have any of you had experiences with deer shot in this area and the big question is will she make it or be coyote bait?

confused

Did you hit here HIGH but otherwise where you wanted, or did you hit her to far front and hit the front shoulder? A direct scapula hit sometimes won't even penetrate 3 inches....sometimes an inch or two at the most. Are you sure she wasn't quartering to you? If she really was broadside and you really hit around the "magic" crease behind the shoulder only high, my guess is that you hit the bottom of the spine or the really thick rib bone right next to the spine. I have done that a couple times. This is pretty much a "dead zone" with no vitals....my guess is that she will be fine....

All I know is that it was right in line with the crease of her shoulder where we all aim but about 4" down from the top of the back. It was loud as heck too. My cousin heard it hit from 200 yards away in his stand if that helps. He said it sounded like I hit a tree so I definitely hit something hard. I know it wasn't the shoulder bone so all I can guess is the scapula which is right under the spine.

Same thing happen to me. I used g5 striker and got a pass through. It was loud as heck, and I got some good blood the first 50-100 yds, then lost the blood trail. Spent 4 hours looking but couldn't find her. It sucks to shoot a deer and not recover it, I hope you have better luck than I do.
