Let me hear your arrow setups.

Just wanting to get some ideas on some arrows. Looking at changing my setup for this year. Shooting 80lbs with 450gr carbon express maximum reds sd. They fly perfect but the half in half out insert is weak and has broke on every angled shot that hit any kind of bone including ribs. Looking at going back to Easton FMJ but want to stay around the same weight so that might now work. Throw some ideas my way

Victory VAP TKO Elites (350's) 25", 4 fletch heat vanes, 95 grain outsert. With a 125grain fixed head total weight of 472. Watched a youtube video of a guy testing a few big name arrows by putting them between two chairs and standing on them. VAP TKO's were the only ones that didn't break and they still spun true afterward. I shot carbon express maximas for a long time, really good arrows but they aren't the strongest out there for sure. I've shot fmj's in the past as well, the only thing I didn't like about them is they bend in situations where a lot of other arrow would just flex and bounce back.

I just changed arrows so I'm no help as I went from the 350 Blu RZ at 400gr to the 400gr 400 Axis at 265ish fps out of my Realm X and PSE Inertia

hey 22 that there is funny,,, standing on arrows between two chairs, kind of like advertisement for Ugly Sticks(that is a fishing pole brand) is that the new way to test spine?

how much did the guy weigh?

I think the strongest arrows are the X-Weaves

hey 22 he said he want to get away from outserts
The problem he had with the half outs is that they are breaking the arrow on angled shots, this is super common for a thinner walled, lighter arrow like maximas. When you move to a heavier, slightly thicker walled arrow that doesn't become nearly as big of an issue. Just throwing it out there.

Carbon Injexions 280’s
Double HIT inserts
100g Iron Will
And since last week 25g Iron Will 1in footer

Halon 5 @ 72/30dl
Total arrow weight 520@ 289fps average chrono

I’ve done some pretty rough angled plywood testing with field pts and not one broken arrow. Also played with FMJ deep 6 280’s and same results but bent some. As expected with trying to see if the arrow would break behind inserts.

10 yrd test at new 1in thick plywood with 45-70 degree angled shots. All penetrated decently also for field pts

The double HIT really strengthens with weight and speed setups. And footer now

Last year shot bull with same bow specs roughly but with outsert/5mm Axis 300’s and and killed him luckily but right behind outsert snapped arrow with hitting one rib perfectly centered. Not going to let that happen again!

Light(er) arrows with 80# wont last long. What spine are you shooting? If you want a stronger arrow then look at wall thickness. I would also maybe change to a .204 arrow so you dont have those outserts sticking so far out. Thats a big lever waiting to break the end of your shaft.

Gold Tip Velocity shaft .300
125 broadhead
100 gr brass insert
pin bushing and nock
AAE Max Stealth vanes

18% FOC, 500 grains total arrow weight, 28.5" long, 255 FPS.

For you though, @ 80 pounds, I would have to work one up; no way I can do that off the top of my head.

Gold Tip are tough shafts though, I would start there.

At 80# I know you want to stay around 450 grains but if you strengthen the front components you will really increase your FOC and arrow strength. I would go with ethics archery inserts. I was shooting a 400 grain arrow and this year went with .300 spine BE rampage arrows with the ethics archery inserts. 615 grain arrow 22.8% FOC. I recovered every arrow and re use. I'm shooting alot less poundage at 57# and 29". Deer, hog. Ethics archery is a solid SS insert with a sleeve.

Goldtip hunter pro 300 spine, 29in overall length with a 100gr insert and 20gr fact weight added. 518gr overall with a 100gr broadhead and 18% FOC.

I personally do not like any kind of outserts. I’m sure not all of them are bad but I feel that they’re never as strong as an insert. I don’t think there is a stronger arrow than the goldtip hunter series. I do have some black eagle Spartans that I have ready to go one day but I can’t seem to get away from my goldtips.

I use to shoot gold tips and loved them. Had 2 blow up but that was my fault. Swapped to FMJ for the past 5 years till I got this new bow. I might bump my arrow weight up to 500. I just enjoy the 286fps I’m getting out of my 27in dl. I got T-Rex arms lol

I have till September to play with new arrow setups. Thanks for all the ideas

I would look at either the Axis or FMJ in 260 spine, probably around 500-525 grains , with a 50 grain piece of brass. Heavier arrow, you'll lose maybe 10fps, your bow will be quieter and you'll carry a ton of energy to blow through animals.

I shot my bear with a cut on contact single bevel, 461 grain arrow at 285 fps at 50 yards. It went through the neck spine, not a glancing blow but through it, then through the off side shoulder and was poking out the skin on the far side.

I run 29” 2216’s @12.3gpi through my 82# AM32 @29” draw, standard 21 grain insert, 160-180 grain broadheads, 4” vanes, I’ve found that 560-590 grains total arrow weight is a sweet spot for 29”. Still up around 275fps, decent FOC, dead quiet bow, and they have A LOT of late life 40+ yards down range. What’s your draw length OP?

Gold tip hunters 300 add a few xtra grains on the front...If you want the strongest 246 diameter arrow call carbon tech get the rhinos there is not a stronger 246 then them on the market with great specs as well

To the OP, I previously had issues with weak inserts in my old VAP's and ended up doing this with my injexions:
28.75'' Injexion 330
Deep Six insert and a Firenock Aero Outset (total weight is 52 grains up front)
3 fletch Blasers in right helical
Standard g nock
472 grains

I have been extremely impressed with the Aero Outserts, I highly recommend them. Just follow the install instructions and use slow-set epoxy and they will never come off in a target etc.
